Drunk Driving Victim Scholarship

“Every 52 minutes on average, someone is killed in a drunk driving crash (10,228 people in total in 2010). Every 90 seconds, someone is injured because of this entirely preventable crime.” – Mothers Against Drunk Driving

Working in the automotive insurance industry, we at CheapCarInsurance.net see the effects drunk driving has every day. We have met many people who have been directly affected by one of the all-too-frequent drunk driving accidents that occur in the United States every hour.

The Drunk Driving Victim Scholarship was designed to help people who have been victims of intoxicated drivers and are pursuing a career in our industry, the insurance industry.

Details:

  • Award Type: $500 Scholarship
  • Frequency: Awarded Semi-Annually
  • Duration: 1 Semester; applicants may apply for 1 additional semester.
  • Number of Awards: At least 1 each year.
  • Application Deadlines: October 1 and March 15 each year.
  • Awarded: November 1 and April 15 each year.

 

Qualifications:

The scholarship is open to students who have been the victim of a drunk-driving accident and are pursuing a major in:

  • Insurance
  • Risk-Management
  • Actuarial Science
  • Sales
  • Marketing
  • Business Management

Selection:

Selection is based on academic merit, extracurricular activities and employment history. Eligible students must be full-time students at an accredited college or university during the semester the scholarship is received. Financial need is not considered.

Funds:

Funds are sent to the recipient directly. A check is mailed to the student’s permanent address. Recommended used is for college credit or textbooks.

To qualify, applicants must:

  • Have been involved in a drunk-driving accident, not as the drunk driver.
  • Be enrolled in an Insurance, Risk-Management or Actuarial Science, Sales, Marketing or Business Management program at an accredited college or university.
  • This opportunity is open to all United States citizens, permanent residents, legal aliens, F1 students, and anyone else legally authorized to be residing in the United States.
  • Scholarship payable to the winner’s college/university or certified trade school in the United States.
  • Each applicant may submit only 1 entry
  • Relatives of CheapCarInsurance staff or board members may not enter.
  • Winners not based on financial need
  • Deadlines(annually):

We will contact each winner by email/phone using contact information given by the entrant during application process. Winners have ten (10) days from date email is sent/phone message is left to respond and verify they meet the eligibility requirements as defined on the scholarship contest Web site. Once you are confirmed as winner, we will send you the appropriate college/university/trade school forms to complete for a check to be issued to your chosen school and deposited into your student account. Before receiving the scholarship money, the winner may be required to complete and return an affidavit of eligibility, a publicity/liability release, and a confirmation of originality and assignment of all rights to the winning design, within two (2) weeks of responding to the notification. No funds will be issued directly to individuals. All forms and processes must be completed within sixty (60) days of contest end date or your scholarship is forfeited. Winners may also be notified for appropriate recognition to include award assemblies, graduation ceremonies and newspaper announcements.
