New Surveys Finds That Drivers Are Using Bad Driving Habits
Have you ever thought about the way that you drive? Many people can classify themselves into two categories: good and bad drivers. Millions of people drive to work, school, the grocery store, and other destinations on a daily basis. People are supposed to always drive carefully but they do not always obey the rules of the road. A new survey has uncovered that many drivers have very dangerous driving habits.
According to a survey, one in ten drivers has driven their vehicles on the road without being insured with auto insurance coverage. Many drivers take the risk because they know as long as they do not commit a traffic offense or get into an accident then they will not get caught driving without insurance coverage. This is very risky because a driver never knows if someone might hit them.
Texting while driving has caused many car accidents so now there are bans on texting while driving. However, even though there are laws in place approximately nine percent of drivers still admit that they break the law and text message others while driving.
Talking on the phone is also a big no-no while driving. This has prompted cell phone companies to offer phones that use hands free headsets that are Bluetooth capable. In spite of this technological development, the survey found that approximately thirty percent of drivers still use their cell phones and talk on the phone while driving.
Nearly forty percent of drivers eat food or drink beverages while they drive a car and less than three percent of drivers fix their hair or put on makeup while driving. This survey presents a huge issue for the auto insurance agency. It shows just how problematic it is to hold drivers accountable for their behaviors when they are operating a motor vehicle.
Drivers need to always be aware of their surroundings because a distracted driver is one that could cause a car accident at any time. It is important to always be insured at all times because you never know what can happen. Being involved in a car accident with an uninsured driver is a huge problem because it can take months for an insurance claim to end up being handled.
Many drivers think that they can engage in these types of behavior because they are very rarely ever caught by the police. However, it takes one second to lose focus and end up hurting someone or killing them in a car accident.
Drivers need to take a defensive approach and turn in drivers by calling the police when they see drivers talking on their cell phones or texting while driving. It is against the law in most states to do these things and making the phone call could end up saving the driver’s life or someone else’s.
The driver will not end up going to jail for their actions; they will just get a ticket from a police officer. The ticket might make them wake up and remember not to do these things again. By allowing the behavior to continue, it puts people in danger and makes the roads less safe which will in turn make for higher auto insurance premiums. In this situation a little bit of prevention goes a long way in helping to promote public safety and awareness.
