Unique Laws in Cambridge

Cambridge city leaders recently adopted restrictions on short-term rentals, requiring property owners who want to rent out space for just a few nights to register with the city by April 2018. They also must live in the same building or an adjacent one. The measure was designed to prevent properties being bought up for the sole purpose of creating rental income.

Since Massachusetts is one of the original 13 colonies, there are plenty of antiquated laws still on the books and many that are just plain odd. For example, Massachusetts laws prevent eating more than three sandwiches at a wake, scaring pigeons, wearing a goatee in public or spitting on the sidewalk. Thankfully, it is illegal for children to buy their own cigarettes. And if you’re going to hold a duel that will be carried out to death on a Sunday, make sure the governor is present, per state law.

Massachusetts also is one of a handful of states where it is illegal for any vehicle to use hazard lights while moving. Other states allow it in emergency situations or to indicate a hazard such as heavy rain, while some allow hazard light use at any time.

I had Allston Insurance from 2004-2008. They did not get in the way of any claims filed. They were horribly unresposive however and frequently lost paperwork. They are not evil, just incompetent. It took me two months to get them to cancel my auto policy. I am still trying to get my Renter’s policy canceled.

    My advice: Look Elsewhere.

Do not use this office, they are rude and out of control.
I’ve been using for years because I am dumb. I recently tried to add a motorcycle policy to the thousands of dollars I was spending yearly on my two vehicles and they were completely rude, dismissive, cut me off and generally unhelpful. AFTER YEARS WITH THEM! What a waste, called someone else (Progressive direct in this instance) saved $600/year on my policies and was treated nicely, HAPPY :-).

One gets an insurance agent to look out for your interests and hopefully find you good value. I used them for years and didn’t quesiton whether or not I was getting looked out for. One day, at renewal of my two policies with this company I was quesitoning some pricing. Oh. says the agent. I guess it would make good sense for you to have both policies with the same company. You’d save 10%. I said, why weren’t you already doing this then? Say the agent, “”I only wrote you car insurance policy.”” I didn’t do them both. Which 1. Wasn’t true. and 2. A terrible excuse and she got all hostile at me for even asking. Terrible place that only cares about “”making their commissions for no work on the clients part at all.

Swapping your high heels for a pair of driving shoes can help you qualify for affordable car insurance by avoiding accidents and getting "safer driver" discounts.

It's easier to get discounted car insurance with a car that has a high safety rating than one without one.

When you are looking for car insurance, ask if the insurance company offers a policy where they forgive the first accident.
