Cheap car insurance in Honolulu, HI starts with GEICO: among the 5 insurers we compared, it undercuts the other four ranked companies at all three coverage levels, from $89 a month for full coverage. Next in line is 21st Century at $127 ($38 more), followed by Allstate ($161), State Farm ($181) and Liberty Mutual ($203). GEICO also sells the cheapest Liability Only 20/40/10 policy at $30, though that package sits under Hawaii’s current limits.
The twist in Honolulu: every one of the 11 ZIP codes with a price returned the same number from each insurer, which puts the six-insurer full-coverage average at $147 a month ($1,769 a year) everywhere in the city we priced. With no ZIP code to single out, the useful comparison is between companies. Hawaii also doubled its required liability limits on policies that start or renew from Jan. 1, 2026.
Small sample: USPS lists 41 ZIP codes with Honolulu as the primary city. Prices exist for 11, all in Honolulu County, and 30 came back empty, so nothing below speaks for them. Page updated Nov. 2, 2026. The data vendor is Quadrant Information Services, and its figures describe one modeled driver at rates as of Sept. 30, 2026, so read them as benchmarks instead of offers. Below Hawaii’s 2026 liability limits
USAA is priced but left out of the ranking because it is restricted to military service members and their relatives. In Honolulu it charges $124 for full coverage, $124 for 50/100/50 and $37 for Liability Only 20/40/10: above GEICO each time, so GEICO’s lead survives with USAA counted. More on USAA.
GEICO’s $30 Liability Only price would not satisfy Hawaii’s rules
The package we priced carries 20/40/10 liability, half of each of Hawaii’s 40/80/20 limits, and no tier in our data includes the personal injury protection Hawaii also requires ($10,000 or more). To see a Honolulu price that reaches the liability limits, use the 50/100/50 figure: GEICO charges $82 a month.
Honolulu vs. Hawaii: GEICO $89 Here, $93 Statewide
GEICO leads on the Hawaii page too. Our cheap car insurance in Hawaii guide prices 46 ZIP codes in four counties, and there GEICO beats the other four ranked insurers in every one of them at every level. Honolulu’s numbers land close to the statewide ones:
| Price | Honolulu | Hawaii | Difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| Six-insurer average, full coverage | $147 | $148 | −$1 |
| GEICO, full coverage | $89 | $93 | −$4 |
| GEICO, Liability Only 20/40/10 | $30 | $28 | +$2 |
| ZIP codes counted | 11 | 46 |
The Hawaii page’s Honolulu County line is broader than ours: 25 ZIP codes instead of 11, showing $148 for full coverage, $141 for 50/100/50 and $49 for Liability Only. Between counties the gap is larger; that page puts full coverage at $131 for Kauai County against $163 for Hawaii County.
Hawaii’s 40/80/20 Limits and the 20/40/10 Tier We Priced
Under the Hawaii Insurance Division’s FAQ, a policy that begins or renews on or after Jan. 1, 2026 needs liability of 40/80/20, double the earlier 20/40/10. That means $40,000 toward injuries to any one person, an $80,000 cap on all injuries from a single accident, and $20,000 for damage to property. The Liability Only tier we priced keeps the older 20/40/10, so it falls short on all three; 50/100/50 clears them. The limits are listed in this Insurance Division FAQ.
| Pays for | Liability Only 20/40/10 | Required | 50/100/50 |
|---|---|---|---|
| One person hurt | $20,000 | $40,000 | $50,000 |
| All hurt in one accident | $40,000 | $80,000 | $100,000 |
| Damaged property | $10,000 | $20,000 | $50,000 |
| PIP (injury cover for you) | Left out | $10,000 or more | Left out |
| Meets liability limits? | No | Required | Yes |

Car Insurance Honolulu HI: Prices by Company
Each of the five ranked insurers has a price in all 11 ZIP codes, and because the ZIP codes agree, each company has one Honolulu price per level. They are sorted by full-coverage price, lowest first.
| Insurer | Full | 50/100/50 | Liability 20/40/10 |
|---|---|---|---|
| GEICO | $89 [$1,073] | $82 [$985] | $30 [$354] |

| State Farm | $181 [$2,169] | $170 [$2,034] | $63 [$760] |
| Liberty Mutual | $203 [$2,430] | $194 [$2,328] | $57 [$679] |
| Six-insurer city average (USAA included) | $147 | $141 | $49 |
Where the order changes
Behind GEICO and 21st Century, full coverage and 50/100/50 share one order: Allstate, State Farm, Liberty Mutual. Liability Only shuffles it. Liberty Mutual and Allstate both round to $57 a month, with Liberty Mutual $10 a year lower, and State Farm’s $63 is the highest of the five.
A note on USAA
Only military members and their relatives can buy USAA, so we price it but never rank it or call it cheapest. Its Honolulu averages are $124 a month for full coverage ($1,482 a year), $124 at 50/100/50 ($1,491) and $37 for Liability Only 20/40/10 ($449), which is $35, $42 and $7 a month above GEICO. One oddity: its 50/100/50 yearly price runs $9 above its full-coverage price, and both appear as Quadrant returned them.
Car Insurance in Honolulu, HI by ZIP Code: Eleven Priced, All Alike
All 11 priced ZIP codes returned the same price from each insurer at every level, so no ZIP code is cheapest or priciest and there is nothing to rank. The six-insurer average is $147 a month for full coverage in each. The extra place names USPS gives some ZIP codes are shown as data.
| ZIP code | Other USPS labels | GEICO |
|---|---|---|
| 96813 | Hon, Hono | $89 |
| 96814 | Hon, Hono | $89 |
| 96815 | Hon, Hono | $89 |

| 96825 | Hon, Hono | $89 |
| 96826 | Hon, Hono | $89 |
| All 11 ZIP codes | Same prices in all eleven | $89 |
Within each ZIP code the lowest ranked price for full coverage is GEICO’s $89 ($1,073 a year), so all 11 sit below $200 a month and below $150 too. They mark the cheapest options rather than a typical household’s cost; 21st Century, next among the ranked, charges $127.

Choosing a Coverage Level in Honolulu: Liability Only, 50/100/50 or Full
Most of the added cost arrives at the first step. From Liability Only 20/40/10 to 50/100/50 the six-insurer average climbs from $49 to $141 a month (+$92), since 50/100/50 also insures your own car against collision and comprehensive losses and raises the liability limits. Full coverage tacks on only $6 more. GEICO’s steps are $52 and $7. Five of the six insurers charge less for 50/100/50 than for full coverage, by $3 (21st Century) up to $11 (State Farm); USAA is the exception. Lenders and lessors commonly require collision and comprehensive, and a 20/40/10 policy would not meet Hawaii’s law.
What Hawaii Law Requires of Honolulu Drivers
- Liability: 40/80/20 for policies that are new or renewing on or after Jan. 1, 2026, per the Hawaii Insurance Division, twice the 20/40/10 that applied before.
- Personal injury protection (PIP): injury cover for you on top of liability, required at $10,000 or more (same source). None is in our prices, so a Honolulu policy that adds it will cost more than the figures here.
- Credit: Hawaii bars insurers from building a standard or rating plan on a person’s credit bureau rating (HRS 431:10C-207 and 431:10C-409; see the chart of state credit rules from the National Association of Insurance Commissioners).
Six Moves That Can Trim a Honolulu Car Insurance Bill
- Begin with GEICO’s quote. It beat every other ranked insurer in all 11 ZIP codes at all three levels, by $38 a month over the runner-up for full coverage.
- Get 21st Century’s number next. It is runner-up at every level: $127 for full coverage and $124 for 50/100/50.
- Hold every quote to 40/80/20 liability or higher. A 20/40/10 quote will look cheapest but cannot satisfy a new or renewing Hawaii policy.
- Request the same PIP amount everywhere. Hawaii requires $10,000 or more and our prices omit it, so totals only compare when each insurer includes one figure.
- Quote 50/100/50 and full coverage together. The gap is $7 a month at GEICO and $11 at State Farm.
- Enter the ZIP code of wherever the car stays overnight. Honolulu ZIP codes price alike here, so ZIP shopping within the city gains nothing, but county averages on the Hawaii page sit about $32 a month apart.
How to Line Up Honolulu Quotes Side by Side
The driver we modeled is not you, so quotes are only comparable if each one uses the same inputs:
- Liability of 40/80/20 or more, on a policy starting or renewing on or after Jan. 1, 2026.
- The same PIP amount.
- Matching collision and comprehensive deductibles, drivers and vehicles.
- The garaging ZIP code, and a full-year price rather than one month’s payment.
